Together we can save lives.

Millions of drivers endanger themselves and the lives of others everyday by texting while driving. Mercury Insurance wants to help make our roads and highways safer for everyone, so we’re asking that you join us by pledging not to text while driving.

Join WTA players Agnieszka Radwanska, Daniela Hantuchova and Svetlana Kuznetsova, and thousands of others from across the country who have signed and adopted the “Don’t Text and Drive” pledge.

By the time you look up, it may be too late. Texting while driving could drastically change someone’s life.

Texting while driving is a leading cause of accidents for teenagers and it claims thousands of lives each year.1 In fact, texting while driving reduces a driver’s reaction time so much that it’s the same as driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent, which would make you legally intoxicated.2

Several studies reveal:

  • Drivers are four times more likely to get into an accident when texting and driving.3
  • More than 49% of all adults say they have been in a car when the driver was sending or reading text messages.4
  • Nearly 86% of teens admit to texting while driving.5

Don't Text and Drive: The Pledge

I understand that millions of drivers endanger themselves and the lives of others everyday by texting while driving. This dangerous practice claims thousands of lives each year and is a leading cause of accidents for teenagers.*

It also reduces a driver’s reaction time so much that it’s the same as driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent, which would make me legally intoxicated and subject to arrest.*

I hereby pledge to help make our roads safer by not texting while I drive, I also promise to do the following:

  • I will not read or send text messages while operating a motorized vehicle;
  • I will always follow the law when using a phone in my vehicle;
  • I will support law enforcement agencies’ efforts to eliminate distracted driving;
  • I will encourage my friends and family to drive safely by keeping their eyes on the road at all times; and
  • I will be a positive role model for all those who ride with me.
